A little taste of India in the heart of DC :)

Ever since I am transplanted myself to USA from India, it is but natural to search for the glimpses of my native land here. Fortunately, I have not been disappointed by this multi-cultural cosmopolitan society. I have found India lurking in the corners and sometimes on the streets of DC - Indian food, culture, people - everything is easily accessible and in abundance here. However, yesterday when I went to watch the Asha Bhonsle concert in remembrance of R. D. Burman I was transported back into my childhood. Together, Asha ji and Sudesh Bhonsle performed various romantic solos and duet making it a cherishable evening.

I have never been a big fan of Bollywood musical concerts, so I was not sure what to expect. But I was very surprised when Asha ji entered the stage. Attired in a black sparkling saree with pearls and diamonds she looked very majestic and regal. A woman in control of her destiny. Her powerful stage presence was undeniable. And when the melody queen belted out popular classic Bollywood numbers, the audience rocked. It was really hard to imagine that at 76 years of age, her voice was as powerful and as sweet as ever. She not only looked absolutely stunning but she also entertained the audience with her various talents by dancing, joking and playacting.

It was truly an honor to witness her singing live on stage. Three cheers to the legendary singer!!!
